STIR OF ECHOES
A short run on 'seeing and talking to dead people' movies last year brought us this very
watchable Kevin Bacon flick. Here he plays Tom, a telephone lineman, who views his life
as particularly ordinary, a fact that disturbs him greatly. He's married to Maggie
(Kathryn Erbe), who's pregnant with their second child and he has a son named Jake who
seems to talk to himself a lot.
At a party one night, Tom agrees to allow himself to be hypnotized by Lisa (Illeana Douglas) a
student who half-knows what she's doing. One of her post-hypnotic suggestions leaves Tom
with horrid hallucinations and pretty soon he and Jake have more in common than he knows.
Visions of a dead woman take over his life and now he becomes obsessed with discovering who
she is and how she met her fate. The more he digs up (literally) the closer he comes to losing
his wife and his own life.
Lotta says: Although this is not nearly as refined as "The Sixth Sense", it's a good story that keeps your
interest up and has some decent spookiness to it as well.
